Boudreaux's Butt Paste® Maximum Strength Diaper Rash Cream (57g) is a high-potency zinc oxide-based barrier treatment formulated to provide rapid relief and long-lasting protection against moderate to severe diaper rash in infants and toddlers. Engineered with 40% zinc oxide, the maximum allowable over-the-counter concentration, this cream offers a clinically significant occlusive effect, accelerating skin healing while creating a resilient barrier against moisture, friction, and irritants. Its thick consistency and fast-acting formula make it especially effective for managing persistent, inflamed, or compromised diaper-area skin.
Advanced Dermatological & Pharmacological Profile
1. Active Ingredient
Zinc Oxide (40%) – Maximum OTC Strength
-
Forms a robust, protective film over irritated skin, shielding against further exposure to wetness, urine, feces, and mechanical friction.
-
Possesses anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and wound-healing properties.
-
Aids in reducing erythema (redness), irritation, and maceration, particularly in moist occluded areas like the diaper zone.
-
Helps restore the skin’s natural pH and promotes keratinocyte regeneration, essential for healing damaged epidermal tissue.
2. Inactive Yet Functionally Important Ingredients
Castor Seed Oil (Ricinus communis)
-
A naturally derived emollient with ricinoleic acid, offering antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits.
-
Penetrates deeply to condition and soothe irritated skin while supporting the structural integrity of the skin barrier.
Mineral Oil
-
Acts as a gentle, non-comedogenic occlusive agent, helping to trap moisture and prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
-
Reinforces the protective function of zinc oxide by forming a secondary lipid layer.
Paraffin & White Petrolatum
-
Provide intensive occlusion, ideal for overnight use or cases of prolonged skin exposure to wet diapers.
-
Protects against MASD (moisture-associated skin damage), which contributes to severe rash development.
Peru Balsam
-
A resin-based ingredient with antiseptic, healing, and skin-regenerative properties.
-
Helps support skin barrier repair and improves the cream’s adherence to moist or broken skin.
Therapeutic Benefits and Mechanism of Action
-
Forms a durable, water-resistant barrier that remains in place even under high-moisture or high-friction conditions.
-
Neutralizes inflammatory triggers associated with prolonged contact with ammonia, enzymes, and friction.
